“A” AWARD
Set up in 1987, Fundación ARCO aims to promote contemporary art collecting and research. The brainchild of IFEMA and made up of its consortium members - Madrid City Council, Madrid Regional Council, Fundación Montemadrid and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce -, it is a structure that complements the informative nature of the International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCOmadrid.
The “A” Awards, which were held for the 24rd time on 2020, acknowledge the labour of collecting in all its different facets, ranging from the importance of the creation of heritage in Latin American museums to the work of private collectors for their work in supporting the dissemination of contemporary art. This prize, awarded to the Engel Foundation on 25 February 2020, join the 70 collections and institutions from 19 countries who have received prizes since 1997 for their generosity and rigour in support of contemporary art.
Historically, the prize has been awarded to outstanding collectors, institutions and museums such us Colección Alicia Koplowitz, Colección de Arte Latinoamericano del Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Colección Cisneros, Eduardo F. Costantini, Mariana y Eduardo Hochschild, Zabludowicz Collection, INHOTIM, Paul Getty Foundation, Colección JUMEX, Fundación Beyeler, among many other.
