Fundación Engel

NuMu is a project of the Fundación Engel, an organization established by Claudio Engel and his four children in 2016. For us at Fundación Engel, the arts and culture are essential to human existence and we believe that all people should have access to them.

Our mission is to collect, preserve, research, exhibit and promote contemporary Chilean and Latin American art. We seek to foster the artistic experience as a source of knowledge, create spaces of encounter and community, enrich the cultural heritage, and promote collaboration with professionals and institutions locally and globally.

Our key principles

Art
The Fundación Engel is a dynamic entity that is inspired by and evolves with contemporary art and its diverse expressions. NuMu will not only be an exhibition space, but also a laboratory for innovation and experimentation in the arts.

Education
We believe that culture has the power to connect and transform. That's why we are committed to offering educational programs for everyone, from children to seniors.

Architecture
The future NuMu will be an architectural landmark that consolidates the site where it is located. Its design highlights and respects the geography of the Santiago valley, creating a unique link between the museum, the park and the urban network.

Nature
NuMu is designed to blend in with its natural surroundings. Being located in a park, the museum seeks to create a space that engages in dialogue with nature, taking full advantage of the geography of the site and offering a green area that connects visitors to the museum's indoor and outdoor experience.

About the President of Fundación Engel

Claudio Engel is a Chilean businessman and one of the most influential collectors of contemporary art in the country. His passion for art comes from his family, which has always valued education and culture as key to the integral development of people. The NuMu Collection and the future NuMu are his way of thanking Chile, the country that generously welcomed his family in the 1930s.

As president of Fundación Engel, he has taken an active role in the international cultural scene. He is a patron of several institutions, such as the Board of Trustees of the Museo del Prado and the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Board of Trustees of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art) and the International Circle of the Malba Museum in Buenos Aires. He has traveled the world visiting artists, collectors, museum directors and curators, in order to learn about the challenges and needs of cultural institutions, generating alliances for future collaborative projects.
