GIANFRANCO FOSCHINO

(Santiago, 1983)

Foschino operates at the boundary of time and space and between photography and cinema, so much so that his videos are often taken for still images. Instead of capturing the temporary flow of things, many of Foschino’s works explore situations where dynamics are at a minimum and movement is barely perceptible. Such is the effect, for instance, of Apartments (2012) in which the artist records an apartment building in Hong Kong from a fixed frontal viewpoint. Hung on the wall like a painting, the work turns the experience of watching an apartment building that houses thousands of individuals into a contemplative viewing of time itself.
