MÓNICA BENGOA

(Santiago, 1969)

Bengoa’s artistic practice establishes a working process committed to exploring how to depict everyday life using manual means. The idea behind Some Observations At Noon (2012) was to create a complex mural with a single 1.84-by-15-metre roll of felt. The construction of the image responds to the presence/absence of the material but also alludes to high- contrast photography. Based on a 360o photographic view of a modest interior garden, the mural displays a panoramic view of plants and shrubs which, due to the scale and curvature of the wall on which it is installed, suggests a far greater profusion of vegetation than that found in the original.
